If there’s one thing that always happens in the video game industry, it’s change in regards to game developers. Studios close, heads of certain divisions leave or are replaced, and new teams are brought in to bring new life to games or studios. That’s what happened to Naughty Dog last decade just before the release of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. As Naughty Dog’s founders were set to leave the company.
Last of Us
In the last generation of video games, easily one of the big standout games was The Last of Us. It was a game that not only touted incredible, lifelike visuals, but also a compelling story that tugged at many a heart strings, and it proved that games can tell just as deep a story as other mediums. However, as with many games, after we got this incredible experience, we wanted more. Players wanted The Last of Us 2, and Naughty Dog wasn’t exactly giving us any definitive answers as to whether we’d be getting it or not. So a fan asked Nolan North (who voiced one of the key characters in the original game) whether he knew it was coming. Sony had the most solid showing of the platform makers at E3. Microsoft focused on the Xbox as media device, while skimping on the game content. Sony, meanwhile, kept its eye on the games, and though the show featured some bewildering missteps, it opened and closed extremely strong.
