Anime NYC Announcements From Kodansha Include Miraculous Manga

Kodansha USA dumped a boatload of announcements during Anime NYC — over 20 titles they plan to bring to the US in English next year. These include the Western debut of the manga based on Miraculous, that French cartoon about the ladybug girl and the cat boy who flirt all the time yet never actually make a move. (If you’re still waiting for something to happen there, you really should have figured it out by now — it’s a gimmick, they will never get together so give up). Other offerings include a girl who becomes a fish, a boy who becomes a monkey (though he prefers the term “humanzee”), one of the shortest titles we’ve ever seen on a manga, “ORIGIN” (about a robot who must battle a group of evil robots for control of futuristic Tokyo), and one of the longest titles we’ve  ever seen on a manga, “I’m Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness: I’ll Spoil Her with Delicacies and Style to

There are manga about all sorts of subjects…sports, school, cooking…but there aren’t many about wine. Tadashi Agi’s The Drops Of God fills that unique niche with the tale of Kanzaki Shizuku, heir to a wine collection worth a fortune. Shizuku’s father, Kanzaki Yutaka, was a world-renowned wine critic, and amassed the collection over many years…now he’s passed, but inheriting his goods won’t be as simple as filling out a few forms. Y’see, Yutaka never forgot the day his son threw away the family legacy by choosing to work at a lowly BEER company (the shame). Kodansha announced today that, in honor of the Attack on Titan anime running its final season, the number of volumes in the manga series has been temporarily expanded on ComiXology. As of now, anyone with a ComiXology Unlimited or Kindle Unlimited subscription can read AoT up to Volume 22 free of charge. And in case you get hooked (which they’re counting on), Volume 23 through 32 of Attack On Titan are now up to 50% off. The sale also folds in spinoff volumes such as Before The Fall, Lost Girls, Junior High and others. Attack On Titan’s final season completed its initial run late last month. Like Season 3, Season 4 is being split into two parts, with the first 16 having aired in early 2021 and the remainder (episode count unknown) now in production. Today (March 31) is International Transgender Visibility Day, and manga publisher Kodansha is commemorating the occasion with not just a release announcement for a new TG-perspective manga, but a free preview of its first chapter. Created by Keito Gaku, Boys Run The Riot is the four-volume story of Ryo, a trans teenager who finds escape from the anxieties of daily life by pursuing high fashion. He’s gifted at coming up with his own clothes, and he needs them to feel like his true self. Kodansha USA Partnering With INKR Digital Comics Service

American manga distributor Kodansha USA has announced it’s entering a partnership with INKR. If you’ve never heard of it, but assume it’s some new app, you’re right. INKR was created by a Vietnamese team working for a Singaporean company, and its aim is to do for manga what Netflix did for TV…a steady stream of content for a flat subscription rate. INKR just launched in October 2020, and Kodansha marks one of the biggest acquisitions in the young app’s two-month life so far. In addition to manga, INKR also distributes webtoons, manhua, and other comics through its service — it aims to stream in content from all over the world. The deal means INKR now carries over 400 manga volumes for reading, under respected titles like Attack on Titan, To Your Eternity, A Silent Voice, Your Lie in April, and more. Kodansha USA Publishing has partnered with izneo, an online comics platform to distribute Kodansha Comics and Vertical’s digital manga catalog, which includes over 2000 English language titles. Manga fans will be able to read series such as Fire Force, Attack on Titan, The Quintessential Quintuplets, The Ghost in the Shell, FAIRY TAIL, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal Edition. Readers will be able to access from Android devices, Nintendo Switch, and via desktop. Access to izneo via iOS will be made available in the coming months.
