For those of you who don’t remember the 90s, there was once a ball made of hundreds of rubber strands called the Koosh Ball, named after the noise it made when it hit the floor. Koosh Balls could be safely thrown around the house as they were soft enough to not break anything (unless you threw them really hard against a lamp). They were massively popular and before long, everybody had a Koosh Ball or two around the house…which put their maker, Oddzon Productions, in an awkward position. If everyone had a Koosh Ball, no one would need to buy them anymore. Arcade1Up is going to have a packed 2021. They just revealed their lineup of new products for the next few months, and there are some real killers coming your way, if you have the instinct. Look at this lovely machine! An authentic recreation of the Killer Instinct arcade unit — we never thought we’d see that, especially with the 90s Rare logo stamped all over it. Rare released four arcade games during the brief period they made them, and all four are playable here: KI, KI 2, Battletoads, and Battletoads / Double Dragon. The Big Important Question is if the Killer Instinct cabinet says “COMING IN THE FALL OF 1995, FOR YOUR NINTENDO ULTRA 64!!” when you turn it on. Unfortunately the arcade KI is already available for XBox One and the message has been removed there. Killer Instinct has been very popular on Xbox One and PC. It’s revitalizing of the classic characters into the modern era has brought joy to many gamers. Then, once they started including 3rd party characters like Ramm from Gears of War, the Arbiter from Halo, and Rash from Battletoads, the possibilities just seemed to grow. Now, an official survey for Killer instinct has appeared. The studio is asking for helping shaping the future of the game: “We need the Community’s help in shaping the future of Killer Instinct. Your feedback will be taken directly to the developers at Iron Galaxy Studios and Microsoft Game Studios to help make Killer Instinct even better! Please be as direct and honest as possible! The Survey will close on 7/5 so be sure to get your responses in ASAP!” With it, comes a question about what characters, both new and classic, gamers would like to appear in the game. In a surprise reveal at the Microsoft E3 Press Conference, the team behind Killer Instinct revealed that yet another 3rd party character would be coming to the game. This one would be General Raam of Gear of War. Furthermore, those want to test out Raam’s brutal skills will not have to wait, as he will be playable for free for a week starting right now. Finally, Killer Instinct is another title to be featured in Microsoft’s Play Anywhere initiative, where players will be able to play anyone on Xbox or PC, and be able to play their games on both, regardless of which version they bought it for first. Microsoft Studios and Iron Galaxy released the new launch trailer today for Killer Instinct Season 3. Beyond the new characters who have already been confirmed for the game, a great deal of new features were also announced in the trailer, which you can check out below. Kim Wu, Arbiter from the Halo franchise, Rash from Battletoads and Tusk were already confirmed for the third season. The new single-player mode is called Shadow Lords. The game’s official website describes Shadow Lords as a mix of “part ladder, part arcade mode, part story mode, and part roguelike.” In this mode, players have ot beat Gargos to stop his invasion of the Earth. Shadow Lords will also receive new content as more characters are added to the game over the course of the season. In addition, the game will receive a new multiplayer mode, which is set to launch in July. This will also tie into the Shadow Lords. The character was previously teased to join the game earlier this year, and now it’s confirmed. Microsoft Studios has officially announced that the The Arbiter from the Halo franchise has been confirmed to join the fighter roster for Killer Instinct: Season Three. You can check out the new trailer for The Arbiter in the game in the player below. The Arbiter is the latest special guest character for the game, joining Rash of the Battletoads franchise. The new trailer showcases The Arbiter’s fighting moves, and his use of an energy sword. Seeing how well it works for fighting game franchises like Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat, adding special guest characters from other franchises for Killer Instinct makes a lot of sense. Hopefully, The Arbiter could the start of future guest characters coming to Killer Instinct, even if it simply means other Microsoft-owned franchise characters joining the roster. After an absence of 20 years, Kim Wu is returning to the tournament for the third season update to Microsoft’s take on Killer Instinct, Rare’s entry in the 1990’s fighting genre. The new Killer Instinct was greeted with yawns by the hardcore gaming public when it was first introduced with the initial wave of XBox One games — despite the fact that it was beloved by those same gamers on the SNES and that it was also free. People had grown to distrust whatever a Rare character was doing on a Microsoft console (despite this, the new Killer Instinct is not made by Rare). Xbox and Iron Galaxy revealed a new character today for Killer Instinct Season 3 in Kim Wu. You can check out the reveal trailer for the character in the player below. The character was revealed during the Killer Instinct World Cup at PAX South. The martial artist Kim Wu makes her return from Killer Instinct 2, way back in 1996. So this is a nice 20th anniversary return for the character. In addition, Iron Galaxy this week released a series of rebalance and patch notes for Killer Instinct 3. The new balance adjusts are the result of Iron Galaxy wanting to “encourage player creativity in play styles, setups, and combos.” Per the patch notes: “Remember, the rebalance is a sum of all parts. Microsoft Studios and Iron Galaxy have dropped the latest trailer for Killer Instinct for Season 2 of the game. The latest video showcases Aganos, the war golem, and is available in the player below. Aganos was briefly teased in the last trailer, which featured Omen. It appears Aganos has some connection to another Killer Instinct character, the sorcerer Kan-Ra. It appears Aganos has pursued Kan-Ra for centuries after being ordered to vanquish the sorcerer by his old king. Aganos is a bulky, behemoth of a character. He is a golem made up of stone rock, held together by tree-like branches as his joints and sinew. Most of his attacks look like short-range bashing attacks, but he does appear to have a couple type of long-range attacks. His backstory being tied with Kan-Ra’s, giving the two a rivalry is very interesting. Microsoft Studios and Iron Galaxy have revealed a new character trailer for Killer Instinct Season 2, showcasing the new character named Omen. The new Omen trailer is available below. Omen is the Herald of Gargos. He is a bonus character for season two of the fighting game. In the trailer, Omen appears to be a demonic being made out of crackling, electric energy. He looks to be an anthropomorphic cloud of energy. He can also sprout bat-like wings and shoot spheres of crackling energy at his opponents, or rapidly kick them. Omen was not the only new character showcased in the trailer. At the end, the video teases yet another new character for the roster, a hulking mammoth of a parts who is simply called Golem. Release details for Golem have not yet been announced, but he looks to be strong and formidable force of nature.
