When was the last time a movie took you on a journey that didn’t span 20 films? Do you long for the days of Indiana Jones searching for lost treasures of history? Are you looking for a laugh in your adventure films? Then Gold Dust, the new film from writer-director, David Wall is waiting for you to discover it’s quirky brand of fun. When I look back at my own film viewing experience, the hunt for buried treasure doesn’t factor into a lot of my favorites. My Dad loved cheesy flicks like the Allan Quatermain movies from Cannon Films in the mid 80’s and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise had a decade of success to boast of, yet none of those cinematic offerings ever had me coming back for more. Perhaps then it is the more personal touch of the comedy-adventure Gold Dust that grabbed my interest. High Octane Pictures has announced their latest suspense horror film, Rootwood, will be arriving on DVD and digital platforms next month. Two college students are hosts of a popular podcast devoted to creepy urban legends and scary stories. They attract the attention of a Hollywood producer, who wants their assistance in filming a new documentary based on the legend of a figure called The Wooden Devil. So they and the film crew head into the woods where the monster is rumored to dwell….and nothing happens. Okay, a lot happens. It soon becomes clear the Wooden Devil is real and he’s after his latest victims. With this kind of premise, you might assume this is a found footage movie in the Blair Witch vein, but it has a bit of a higher budget than that. Today is the day….the day the dinos return with a vengeance. High Octane Pictures has released Jurassic Thunder onto DVD and digital. Here’s what we’re talking about…the movie is a satirical farce about a hypothetical World War III where the American army decides that cloned dinosaurs would give them a tactical edge. Except that wasn’t apparently enough, so they stick mounted machine guns and cameras on their heads, and then set them loose in enemy territory. Well, the dinos make short work of the enemies, but they don’t appear to be on our side either. That’s because….they’re dinosaurs. Their brains are the size of walnuts, and lacking a sense of the big picture, their real only thought is where the yummy meat is. So while we got rid of the enemy, we now have an even worse problem. Whose idea was this anyway? ….Well, Trump’s in the trailer (not literally). Jurassic Thunder stars Heath C. Heine, Rick Haak, and Jon Cotton, and was directed by Milko Davis and Thomas Martwick.

As the clip implies, this is one of those stories where a robot goes mad and starts killing people, but in this case…it’s the kind of circumstance where you can’t blame the robot at all. A domestic family brings the latest home-tech craze, the Alpha Home Assistant, home and boots it up. The AHA will do whatever you tell it to, including most household chores. If it does something you DON’T want it to, a little gentle persuasion like a spritz of water will tell it to avoid that action in the future, much like a dog. They say if World War III is fought with nuclear weapons, World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones. It’s a drama about — and starring — adults with developmental disabilities. The focus is on a young man with a rough past who’s been searching for his birth mother. When he finds her, he’s shocked to learn of her mental disability. His wife aids him in helping the man deal with the discovery and re-connect with his lost mom. Carol of the Bells was directed by Joey Travolta, who’s worked on many movies over the years including “Beverly Hills Cop III”, “Oscar” and “Amazon Women on the Moon.” These days he teaches filming to students with developmental disabilities at Inclusion Films, who produced this movie alongside Futures Explored, Inc. and Options for All. High Octane Pictures is releasing their crime thriller Blood Hound on DVD and VOD formats this January. Ace PI Abel Walker is on the case of a missing woman. With his cameraman Jim assisting him, he digs deep into her disappearance and discovers something the person who hired him doesn’t want him to know. With both sides after them now, they’ll have to crack this case pro bono. Everything in the trailer is footage from Jim’s camera and though this isn’t being billed as a found footage movie, it appears to be one. High Octane Pictures is bringing Blood Bags to digital and disc next month, a film they describe as “a modern take on classic Italian horror cinema.” No matter who they are, everyone needs a reason to venture inside a creepy abandoned mansion. Some are less realistic than others. In this case, they came up with a fairly plausible one: the two girls that venture inside are photographers, and they love taking pictures of urban decay. Plenty of these people exist in real life, so if there ever actually was a murderous ghost or a bloodthirsty psycho living inside a rotted manor, these would be their victims. Anyway, now they’re inside and they’re getting chased and they’re screaming. Based on one brief shot in the trailer, the girls’ blood seems to be literally what they’re after, which they actually want to drain into medical bags — though for what purpose, we don’t know.
