My newest interview subject, Mark A. Mangini, is an accomplished sound designer and editor. He’s helped create the soundscapes for films of all sorts. Ranging from multiple films in the Star Trek franchise to a frequent collaboration with Joe Dante, from Disney Renaissance classics like Beauty And The Beast and Aladdin to Mad Max: Fury Road, which would win him his first Oscar, Mark A. Mangini has created memorable soundscapes for almost half-a-century, with no signs of stopping any time soon. Mark took some time to speak with me this past December, and today I share my epic conversation with this great talent.

The announcements weren’t all for grown-ups at the HBO Max presentation tonight. Several new cartoons targeting a young audience were revealed for the service. Several of them happen to star resurrected versions of classic WB and Hanna-Barbera characters. If we had to guess, we’d say this stuff was originally meant for the Boomerang channel / streaming service. Wonder what’s gonna happen to that.
My newest interview subject, Tom Ruegger, is an animation legend. Whether at Warner Brothers, Hanna-Barbera or Disney, Tom Ruegger has worked on some of the most memorable cartoons of the last 4 decades. On August 28th, I had the chance to speak to Mr. Ruegger about some of his most noted work, including three series that are celebrating anniversaries this year. 2018 marks the 30th anniversary of “A Pup Named Scooby-Doo”, which was produced at Hanna-Barbera as shown in the cover photo of Tom, William and Joe, the 25th anniversary of “Animaniacs”, e, and the 20th anniversary of “Histeria”. We discussed all that and more, so get set to spend some time with an animation superstar.
The name Mickie McGowan may not be familiar to you, but you’ve certainly heard her voice before, or at least those of the talents she’s gathered together when doing ADR casting for films from the 80s to the modern day. I first came to know of Mickie McGowan via seeing her posts on the Facebook walls of some of my other friends, and when I looked up her filmography, I was stunned. Name an animated movie of the past 30 years, and she was most likely involved, either as a voice-over talent or ADR coordinator. Her live-action resume is rather impressive as well. I interviewed Mickie McGowan on Tuesday, December 5th, about her long and varied career, and I hope you all enjoy getting to know this unique talent.
DC Comics has recently remade their entire Hanna-Barbera lineup. With modern or revamped takes of the classic characters.
DC Comics has gone through a lot of reboots lately, but this one may take the cake. In case you didn’t know, DC Comics has been making comics of the legendary Hanna-Barbera characters for quite some time. Including mixing their characters, like Scooby-Doo, with their DC heroes.
Cartoon icons Tom & Jerry have been trying to kill each other for more than 70 years. Their weapons of choice include “everything from axes, firearms, explosives, traps and poison” [- Wikipedia.org] in attempt to maim, maul and murder each other.
