SDCC 2016: Kismet Confirmed For Guardians Vol.2

Another cosmic being has been confirmed for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2. This one comes in the form of Ayesha, aka Kismet, who will be played by Elizabeth Debicki. Gunn took the time to explain who she was in the realm of Marvel: “Ayesha is the golden High Priestess of a genetically-perfect people called the Sovereign. She’s not a woman to be screwed with – she, and her entire world, are extraordinarily deadly.” Usually known in the comics by the name Kismet, Ayesha is a celestial being that was created by a group known as the Enclave, in their second attempt to forge a super-powerful being. With the ability to regenerate and manipulate cosmic energy, Ayesha often uses her powers for flight, and to conjure force bolts for attack. Essentially, Ayesha is immortal. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 arrives May 5th, 2017.

At SDCC, James Gunn took the stage to show off some of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, and in the process, revealed not only that Kurt Russell will indeed be playing Peter Quill’s dad in the comics, but that he is specifically playing, Ego, the living planet. Yes, Quill’s dad is somehow a planet. Yep. In a Facebook post, Gunn went into detail about Ego and his role in the film: “This is the biggie, I guess. Omaze has released a new video featuring Chris Pratt offering fans a brief look onto the set for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. You can check out the video featuring the charismatic and hilarious Prat, the actor behind Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, in the player below. Unfortunately, the video clip doesn’t have anything too revealing, but the camera does follow Pratt back onto the interior set for his ship, the Milano. But there is a lot of humor and jokes from Chris Pratt as he walks around Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. Production recently began on the Marvel Studios film, which is due out in theaters next year. Still it’s nice to see some new material from Pratt to get everyone excited about the new movie as the hype train leaves the station. Pratt definitely looks like he’s ready to be Star-Lord again. Marvel Studios and Disney Studios have officially announced that principal production has begun for the highly anticipated sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The film has started production at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, Georgia. The film is due out in May 2017. Along with the announcement, Marvel Studios made some interesting casting announcement for the film, which will once again be written and directed by James Gunn. Of course, back from the original cast are Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Karen Gillan as Nebula. Some new cast members were also confirmed, including Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell. Elizabeth Debicki is a little bit of a surprise, since the trades hadn’t picked up that she was joining the cast. Currently, the roles for the new cast member are still unknown.
