Few shows in recent memory have had more working against them than Gotham Knights on The CW. It’s from a company that’s slashing projects left and right, with plans to throw out all established multiverses (like this one) in favor of a unified DC, and it’s on a network that’s about to collapse. Oh yeah, and it has to share a name with that bomb video game that came out last year.
Gotham Knights teased fans with a boss battle with one of the villains. The player is playing as Nightwing with Harley Quinn as the boss fight. These two fought in a video game before but not this brutal. Nightwing must capture Harley in the Return to Arkham DLC in the Arkham Knight, but they never engage in physical combat. There was a limitation on man-on-woman violence then. You just beat up her minions, and she will get arrested.
We don’t know what the future of The CW will be just yet, but we don’t take this as a good sign: the network just picked up three new shows for the 2022-23 season, but cancelled SEVEN.
A couple months ago we told you about Gotham Knights, another “Batman Minus Batman” show WB was considering making for The CW. At the time it was just a proposed idea, but it just came one step closer to happening. The CW has greenlit the production of a pilot episode.
There must be some kind of contest at Warner Bros over how many ways you can make a live-action Batman TV series that doesn’t use Batman. There have been at least five at this point, most coming out within the last ten years, and nearly all of them frame Bruce Wayne as either too young, not born yet, missing, or in the case of the proposed series Gotham Knights, DEAD.
