There’s now more than one way to play the dungeon-crawling RPG Gloomhaven. Originally born as a tabletop RPG, it soft-launched in video game form on Steam Early Access two years ago. Since then publisher Asmodee Digital and developer Flaming Fowl Studios have been building up its content, and as of today, the complete and finalized version of Gloomhaven has officially launched.
Over the past two years, publisher Asmodee Digital and developer Flaming Fowl Studios have been building up a video game version of the hit board game Gloomhaven. It’s been in Early Access for dozens of months, but we hear it’s almost ready for the big time. The complete, finalized version of the Gloomhaven game will launch on Steam next month.
Gloomhaven is a tabletop game, a video game, and now a comic book. Gloomhaven: Fallen Lion will be a one-shot comic released through Source Point Press and Deep Water Games that expands the lore with a new story written by Travis McIntyre and illustrated by Tyler Sowles.
First, Gloomhaven was a tabletop game. Then it became a video game. Now Isaac Childres’ creation is invading another medium: comic books. Gloomhaven: Fallen Lion is a one-shot book released through Ox Eye Media and Deep Water Games that expands the lore with a new story written by Travis McIntyre.
Gloomhaven first came into existence as a tabletop game. Designed by Isaac Childres, it gained $4.4 million from its Kickstarter campaign and more than 45,000 backers. When the game was released, BoardGameGeek gave it its highest rating and awarded it the honor of “Board Game of the Year” in 2017.
There are those who say the tabletop game industry will be hit especially hard this year….that might be news to Isaac Childress, whose sequel to Gloomhaven launched its crowdfunding campaign last week. Frosthaven has since become one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns ever.
