Cate Blanchett Confirmed As Lilith In Borderlands Movie

Rumors were spreading last month that actress Cate Blanchett was in talks to star in an upcoming movie based on the Borderlands series. Now we know it’s true…the studio developing the film, Lionsgate, confirmed the casting today. Developed by Gearbox Software, Borderlands is a series of loot shooters with RPG elements and a sophomoric sense of humor. The series has gone through three main games, plus spinoffs like Telltale’s “Tales From The Borderlands.” Blanchett’s character, Lilith, is a powerful psychic referred to as a “Siren” in the Borderlands universe, who leads a group of resistance fighters called the Crimson Raiders. It’s been a long time, but Gearbox Software’s acclaimed real-time space strategy series is finally getting a new installment. Homeworld 3 was announced by Gearbox during their PAX West panel this afternoon. The Homeworld series is renowned for its gigantic space battles, utilizing gigantic warships on a three-dimensional plane. It’s been almost twenty years since the first Homeworld, developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra. The franchise has changed hands over the years; Gearbox picked it up from THQ in 2013. Rumors have persisted since then of another game, but Gearbox never confirmed them until now. The most recent action Homeworld has gotten is the prequel Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016, but it was not a true sequel. Blackbird Interactive were the developers of Deserts of Kharak, and they’re also in charge of this one. Here’s the twist, however: Homeworld 3 will be partially crowdfunded. The folks at Gearbox Software graciously provided an open beta session for the company’s upcoming new game, Battleborn, ahead of the title’s release early next month. The open beta, from the creators of Borderland, was a decent enough demo that provided a nice slice and sampling of gameplay. So far, there’s quite a bit to like. Battleborn appears to be a decent mash-up of many different and familiar game genres. It’s part first-person shooter, part online multiplayer RPG and part multiplayer online battle arena. In addition, it’s been given a nice sprinkle of Gearbox’s trademark humor and panache to make something very interesting and possibly unique. Gearbox Software and 2K Games have released the latest trailer for the upcoming MOBA first-person shooter Battleborn. You can check out the new “Rendain” trailer in the player below. The video is presented as an official transmission from the office of the game’s villain, the Lord Commander Lothar Rendain, who is threatening the denizens of the last star in the galaxy. He’s sending a direct message to the remaining citizens of the Solus System and the 25 Battleborn “heroes” who are challenging his mission to snuff out the last star. The trailer definitely features a lot of the trademark Gearbox sense of humor that looks to have been imbued in Battleborn as well. A fierce legal battle has been going on over the rights of the IP Duke Nukem. Gearbox Software, 3D Realms, and Interceptor Entertainment had been going at it for quite a while, and now, we have a resolution. Though certain details have not been made clear at present, the result of the settlement is that Gearbox now fully owns Duke Nukem. Gearbox Software has released the latest trailer for its upcoming first-person shooter, multiplayer online battle arena video game, Battleborn. You can check out the game’s official E3 2015, “For Every Kind of Badass,” trailer in the player below. The upcoming shooter is set to feature 25 unique heroes. Players will be able to fight solo or in groups with friends. The game is set to feature story missions and multiplayer matches. Battleborn allows up to five players online, five player co-op and two-player splitscreen. The new trailer showcases lots of action packed battles and a very cool, unique art and design style. The game looks like a heavy mix of futuristic of science fantasy along with a vivid comic book superhero style. Gearbox Software and 2K have announced Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. The bundle includes remastered versions of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and will also come with all of the DLC for those two games. It will release for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 24 in North America while international customers will be able to get their hands on the collection on March 27. The developer also revealed some other details about Borderlands: The Handsome Collection. It will support cross save functionality for both titles, allowing players to transfer saves across the same family of consoles, meaning Xbox 360 players will be able to carry over their save games to the Xbox One version.  A new feature will also allow up to four players to play multiplayer on the same console rather than requiring online co-operative play. 3D Realms the developer behind the Duke Nukem series, which closed around five years ago, is now operating again. Having been acquired by Danish company SDN Invest, the developer has been able to function again thanks to a partnership with another studio owned by the same Danish firm called Interceptor Entertainment. A statement on the newly re-launched company website states: “3D Realms is back. After a historic 22 years of kicking ass and not chewing gum, the legendary developer is returning with new talent, new games and a renewed passion for innovative experiences. Take-Two Interactive has released a brand new trailer for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. The video, which can be seen above, is entitled Last Hope and introduces several new characters to the series as well as the now-famous Claptrap. As part of the latest announcement, it was revealed that the game will take advantage of new PC hardware. Those using high-end graphics cards will be able to experience much higher fidelity and performance, unlike other games in the franchise. The publisher has also released two behind the scenes videos showing how the game has been made. Part 1 of the documentary and Part 2 are both available on YouTube.
