It’s been known for a while that a TV show based on the Marvel comic Cloak And Dagger has been in the works, but this is the first time we’ve gotten to see any of it. The official teaser was released this morning.
As we’ve reported here previously, Marvel is working on a comedic take on their superhero universe with New Warriors, a half-hour series starring some of the stranger folks in the Marvel Universe. The show was to appear on Freeform in 2018, but unfortunately THR broke the news today that the cable channel has passed on the series.
Have you ever watched those AT&T commercials with the winsome “Lily” and thought that if a squirrel turned into a human being, it would have the same mannerisms? Marvel and Freeform thought the same, and they’ve announced Milana Vayntrub as the Marvel Live-Action Universe’s official Squirrel Girl.
Marvel Studios is wading into television comedy with New Warriors, a 30-minute superhero series to debut on Freeform. They announced the first new cast member separately — Squirrel Girl, because she needed her own announcement. Now they’re revealed the other members of the team.
In this day and age, it might be more difficult to name established superheroes who DON’T have their own TV shows or movies, either existing or in production. ABC has an Agents of SHIELD spinoff on the way called Inhumans, Hulu is putting together an adaption of Runaways and Fox has something called The Gifted. Freeform is working on a TV version of Cloak and Dagger, and today they announced another show based around Marvel’s New Warriors (who are a superhero gang of teenagers; think Teen Titans Ripoff). The channel wouldn’t confirm who was going to be on the team, save one member: Doreen Green, AKA Squirrel Girl.
