The Thargoids, an alien species in the Elite: Dangerous universe, first appeared in the game almost a year ago. This first contact event surprised players, who were given no real warning that they would be coming over to their galaxy. The situations was tense but this quickly turned to intrigue when meetings between the alien ships and players were seemingly peaceful.
The Solus Project begins as many other survival games do. You are the lone survivor on an alien planet, bearing the responsibility for finding a new home for the rest of humanity away from Earth. It has two distinct gameplay sections, focusing on exploring the world around you and solving puzzles that pose as obstacles that block your path. A bit of story is sprinkled in between, along with a smattering of horror elements, but it is the two former parts that provide the majority of the gameplay.
Phoenix Online Publishing and Overflow Games have released a demo for their new fantasy RPG title Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim, set to be released on PC, Mac and Linux from 26th April. The game will combine mechanics such as crafting, combat and puzzle solving in a plot which sees young viking Tyrim set out on an epic quest to rescue the men of his village.
One of the most popular types of games are those that are set in space. The science fiction genre continues to be one of the biggest in the industry and there are hundreds of new releases every year that focus on space and aliens. Yet, there are relatively few titles that give players something that they truly want, the ability to explore the depths of the universe in their own spaceship, despite the huge success of games like EVE Online and Elite: Dangerous.
