Microsoft is following in the footsteps of EA by launching their very own subscription service for games on the Xbox One. Called the Xbox Game Pass, it will cost subscribers $9.99/£7.99 a month and offer a selection of around 100 games for download.
Players who have an EA Access subscription can get hold of the Battlefield 1 trial a day earlier than expected, as the game has now gone live on the system and is now available to download. It was initially due to go online on October 13.
Two new games have been added to the EA Access Vault and are now available for download on both Xbox One and PC. Both Need For Speed and Unravel have been added to the subscription service over the past few days, taking the number of titles in the vault up to 23. They are set to be joined by Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 next month.
EA has today revealed that their subscription service EA Access will be receiving a brand new game in the Vault in October. Battlefield Hardline, the latest game in the franchise, will join its predecessor Battlefield 4 from next month, though the publisher hasn’t given any details on what exact date the title will be available from. The game has only been available since March, meaning that it will only have been at retail for five months before its inclusion in EA Access.
Microsoft came out with all guns blazing this year, something they had to do considering that they are lagging behind Sony and the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales. Their media briefing was jam packed with games and announcements that they probably hope will get you to upgrade from your Xbox 360 to a shiny new Xbox One.
Xbox executive Aaron Greenberg has revealed that Star Wars Battlefront will be playable exclusively on the Xbox One first. Replying to a question on Twitter, the Microsoft employee confirmed the news, with the game able to be downloaded and played five days earlier than on other platforms through the subscription service EA Access.
Dragon Age: Inquisition originally began life as a multiplayer only game set in the Dragon Age universe according to executive producer Mark Darrah. In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, the developer spoke about how game only had online multiplayer aspects at the start of development but that the concept eventually evolved into becoming a full sequel to its predecessors. “Weirdly we actually had a project code-named Blackfoot which was the first game we had that was looking at Frostbite,” said Darrah. “It was a Dragon Age game, multiplayer only, that was in development before Dragon Age II came out. That became the core of what became Dragon Age Inquisition, the techlines, more than any of the development, so we’ve actually been looking at this a long time.”
EA has announced that its new subscription-based game service is now available to all Xbox One users. Players can download the app from the Xbox Live Store and choose their subscription package to get access to a variety of EA published games. There are two different levels available, a $4.99 a month option and a yearly subscription that costs $30.
