Disney Infinity is to begin to shut down as Avalanche Software removes support for the game on multiple platforms. Starting from today, players will no longer be able to make in-game purchases on the PC, iOS, Android and Apple TV versions of the title, while the game will be removed from the stores on those platforms on September 30.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Disney Interactive is shutting down and the Disney Infinity game series, along with the toys-to-life figures, would be cancelled. This means that future plans for the game were shut down. And some of those future plans involved new Marvel material involving on Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Strange. The Infiniteer Adventures channel released a video showcasing the Doctor Strange figure concept art for Disney Infinity 3.0. You can check out the video showcasing the artwork below.
The Walt Disney Company is making some changes. Unfortunately, those changes in the future do not involve Disney Infinity. The toys-to-life video game series is officially coming to an end. In short, Disney is no longer going to self-publish video games of its properties. As a result, Disney Interactive and Disney Infinity developer Avalanche Software are shutting down (via Eurogamer). The announcement was made by Disney at a recent earnings report.
Disney Infinity 3.0 has already gotten off to a big start with the inclusion of numerous Star Wars characters and worlds. However, at the D23 games panel (documented by IGN), Disney Interactive revealed that there’s much more on the way.
An official Disney blog revealed that Disney Infinity is giving fans the opportunity to vote for the next character addition for Disney Infinity with Disney Infinity Player’s Pick 2015. The voting is officially underway, and the poll to vote on a number of characters across the Disney pantheon, including classic Disney animated features, TV series and live action films. Besides the poll, fans also have the option to tweet at Disney Infinity or comment on the team’s Instagram or Facebook, with #OurDisneyInfinity and their top pick.
Disney Interactive will be mixing things up with Disney Infinity 3.0 by adding Star Wars characters to the mix. However, there are many beloved characters of the Star Wars pantheon beyond the classic characters of the coveted Original Trilogy, including the hit animated Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels. Disney Interactive and Lucasfilm have officially confirmed today that the main characters of Star Wars Rebels will be joining Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition. Almost the whole crew of the starship Ghost will be accounted for with Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren and Zeb Orrelious; all of whom will have their own dedicated Disney Infinity figurines. Unfortunately, it does not appear that Hera or Chopper are getting their own figurines just yet. Hopefully, they will at least get some sort of appearance in the game.
In what might be considered a major spoiler, numerous sites (via ComicBook.com), stemming from an advertisement that is now taken down via order from Disney Interactive, are reporting that a new group of characters are coming to Disney Infinity 3.0. Not surprisingly, the new characters are from the Star Wars universe. However, what is surprising, is that the characters seem to be from The Clone Wars animated TV series. You know, the one that we all loved, then Disney bought Lucasfilm, and the series got cancelled despite having great ratings and unfinished stories. Yeah, that one. The figures appear to be based on the appearances of the characters in Clone Wars.
