Platinum Games has revealed they’ve been working for three years on translating the fast-paced, artful games they’re known for into an experience that can be recreated on cell phones. Today they unveiled the fruits of their labor, World of Demons.
It looks like Nintendo and DeNA are moving closer to revealing more information about their partnership and the games fans are likely to see on smartphones and tablets. According to a new financial report by DeNA boss Isao Moriyasu that has been translated into English, the company is readying to make “announcement plans”, suggesting that news could be coming sooner than many people predicted.
With the recent investors meeting for Nintendo, a lot of details were brought to light about upcoming ventures. One of which was the partnership with DeNA to make both mobile games featuring their IP’s, and to make a new membership service to replace the now defunct Club Nintendo. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata took the stage to outline some of the finer details of what gamers can expect from this new service.
According to a new report from the Japanese business news provider Sankei, Mario Kart producer Hideki Konno has been put in charge of overseeing Nintendo’s new partnership with DeNa to bring into existence those Mario mobile games every investor has been screaming for. Some mobile game makers actually pump out one game per week (and barely make a profit) but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata feels Nintendo should only commit to five, and release them sparsely over the next two years.
Though still very young in its partnership, there is a lot of hype in regards to Nintendo and DeNA’s plan to bring Nintendo IP’s onto smartphones. The potential is incredibly high, but there are questions as well. For example, how many smartphone games will Nintendo try to release in a standard year? Well, during Nintendo’s recent investors meeting, President Satoru Iwata revealed how many games we can expect on smartphones in the next fiscal year or so.
