Dark Souls 3 has finally come out, and even though its only been out a week, it’s already doing incredibly well. In fact, in the UK, it’s not only the #1 game over there, but it has far outstripped what Dark Souls 2 did during it’s initial launch. During it’s first week, according to several sources including Eurogamer, it has sold 61% more copies than Dark Souls 2 did. That’s a significant number. Currently, it’s believed that it’s sold over 600,000 copies, however, that does not include downloads and digital sales, so that number will likely go up.

The Dark Souls franchise is still seen as niche by many gamers but the series has grown out of its cult status from Demon’s Souls into a series that attracts millions of fans. The uncompromising difficulty, huge open worlds and unique mechanics have proven to be a hit with role-playing players and Famitsu has now revealed that the sales of the two Dark Souls games across all platforms has reached an impressive 8 million copies worldwide.
Hidetaka Miyazaki has explained in an interview with Eurogamer that Dark Souls III will not be the last game in the series. He went on to explain that it will act as a turning point in the franchise and the future of developer From Software in general.
