Cyberpunk Edgerunners Triumphs In 2023 Anime Awards
Cyberpunk 2077 may have had a hard time as a video game, but as an anime it’s had nothing but success. The animated spinoff Cyberpunk Edgerunners, produced for Netflix, took home the top prize in today’s Anime Awards. The event was hosted by a mix of movie directors, Hollywood actors, sports figures and Twitch influencers. There was no dominant property this year, even though some anime were nominated in over a dozen categories. Despite winning Anime of the Year AND being new, Edgerunners didn’t take home Best New Anime. That went to Spy x Family, which ended up winning six awards, but was up for sixteen. Best Movie went to Jujutsu Kaisen 0, while Haruo Sotozaki got Best Director for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc.
