Recently I had the opportunity to review the hard-hitting crime drama, Crown and Anchor for Pop Geeks. I found it to be a well-written, beautifully shot film full of great performances that created a fully realized world of drugs and vigilante justice. Seeking to get a full view of the production, I sought out one of the stars of the film, Michael Rowe about how the project came together. Read on to find out what this star seen on the CW’s Arrow had to say about making movies and the secret of his “Resting Ass Hole Face”. Adam Pope: Crown and Anchor is set in your hometown of St. Johns, Newfoundland. Was the choice to use that familiar location a case of writing what you know?  Michael Rowe: Sort of. The characters came from writing what we know. These characters exist in our hometown, so in a way it was the characters that chose the location. We also wanted to explore certain themes that went along with small town life

Life on an island can be a paradise or a prison and in Crown and Anchor, the drug fueled family crime drama by Michael and Andrew Rowe, the latter is made clear with an intensity that will make you feel as if it’s your life on the line. St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada has become a setting for crime stories as of late in series like Hudson & Rex or more comedic takes like Republic of Doyle, but Crown and Anchor doesn’t trade in laughter. Instead focusing on traumatic family affairs and small town justice that have lasting effects on the generations that follow. The filmmakers themselves are from St. Johns, giving Crown and Anchor a credibility that is hard to deny. Plot: When a death in the family brings Jimmy back to his hometown, the Canadian cop find himself ripping open old wounds while discovering the downward spiral of drugs and crime that are endangering the family of his cousin, Danny. Two estranged cousins find “loyalty grows deeper than roots” in Crown And Anchor, an upcoming release from Uncork’d Entertainment. James Downey had a rough childhood, suffering abuse at the hands of his alcoholic father. Despite this, he’s managed to pick himself back up and establish a respectable life for himself. This isn’t the case for his cousin Danny, who also had it rough as a kid but turned to vice in an effort to drown out his sorrow. Addicted to drugs and constantly drunk, Danny is the last person James wants to work with, but circumstances leave them little choice. Crown And Anchor stars Michael Rowe (‘Deadshot’ on TV’s Arrow), Matt Wells (“Designated Survivor”), Natalie Brown (“Saw V”), Robert Joy (“CSI : NY”), Stephen McHattie (“Orphan Black”) and Ben Cotton (“The X-Files”).
