Ubisoft Taking Free To Play Games Offline
Ubisoft has announced that it is going to take several of its free-to-play titles, including the Tom Clancy game Ghost Recon Phantoms. According to a statement from the company, the closures are due to the fact that the games were simply not as successful as they had initially hoped, making them unprofitable to keep online. Players will still be able to access the games and buy items with any currency they have already purchased, though they will not be able to spend any more money in the online stores to get additional items. A FAQ from Ubisoft also makes clear that players will not be given any refunds and will have to spend in-game currency within 60 days of today’s announcement before they are lost forever. Ghost Recon Phantoms will shut down on December 1 while The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot will have its plug pulled on October 25.
