In “King the Land”, Cheon Sa-Rang has a wonderful childhood memory of her mother taking her to the King Hotel. She was struck by its awesome grandeur. Right then she made up her mind that when she got older, she would work at the King Hotel.
Three wishes for Cinderella is the remake of the 1973 Czech film of the same name. This movie has been a Christmas tradition in most European countries. A European child born after the 70s can watch a rerun at least once in their lives. The original gets syndicated for TV during the holiday season.
Years before I knew the name of my newest interview subject, Ve Neill, I was witness to her work on some of the most enjoyable movies of my youth. From Beetlejuice (which won her the first of three Best Makeup Oscars) to Mrs. Doubtfire (which won her a second Best Makeup Oscar) to the Batman sequels, Ve Neill helped create some of the most memorable images the screen has ever seen. I’d been wanting to interview her about her life and work for several years now, and earlier this month, it finally happened. For years, Disney’s animated adaptations of classic fairy tales and novels have done very well, to the point that many think of Disney’s tales as the definitive versions. Now it seems as though their live-action fairy tale adaptations are becoming more successful than the competition as well. Recently, Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book has been a box-office smash and garnered extensive critical acclaim for its’ visuals and its’ storytelling. By comparison, Universal’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War has been a box-office disaster.
