AR company Immersion has combined their tech with the illustrations of Jakub Różalski to create The Ancients AR, a real-time strategy game that superimposes itself over your camera view. In the game, the monsters rise out of the ocean (or wherever you happen to be) and you’ll command an army of warships to defeat them. The game also has a non-AR mode if you get worried about battery life.

If your only experience with augmented reality is Pokemon Go, you’re missing a lot. Today’s phones can project a lot more than fuzzy Japanese monsters onto the sidewalk…..how about gigantic sea battles against immense 100-foot behemoths?
Pokemon Go has just launched in Japan alongside a massive McDonald’s sponsorship deal but millions of players around the world are still trying to get as much information about the game – specifically about the legendary Pokemon such as Mewtwo, Mew, and the legendary birds.
If you have been on the internet over the past few days you will probably have become aware of Pokemon Go, the augmented reality game that allows people to go out into the real world and catch Pokemon on their smartphones. It turns out that this isn’t just something that some people wanted but a phenomenon that has engrossed millions. The success has been so great that Nintendo’s share price jumped by almost 25% earlier this week, adding a significant $7 billion to the market value of the Japanese company.

Today Sony demonstrated their newly upgraded Augmented reality. They call it “Smart AR”, reason being is that markers are no longer needed for the object to be drawn out. This new and improved technology can recognize nearly any real-life object and still function as if it were a place marker. Check out the video after the jump
