Anthem launches in a matter of hours! EA’s most ambitious title of the year and Bioware’s next big franchise (that’s the hope anyway) goes live for all players February 22, after a somewhat tumultuous series of beta tests. Bioware wants everyone to know they’ve been working on resolving the issues that came up during those tests, and the game will be patched the second of launch to deal with them.
Neill Blomkamp, who seems to have found his niche in shorts, has directed a new one — and it’s out now for all to view for free. This is because it’s a commercial product meant to hype a video game, but it’s probably one you’re interested in anyway. The three-minute short is called Conviction: An Anthem Trailer, and it’s set in the world of Bioware’s anticipated upcoming MMO, decades before the game’s story takes place.
In 2015, Neill Blomkamp was on track to direct a new Alien sequel. In 2017, he announced those plans had been scrapped but that he was using the ideas from them to create a series of alien-related shorts (starring Sigourney Weaver). Now Blomkamp seems to have found his niche in shorts, as he’s bringing us another one – this time for an unproven property.
As promised, Bioware’s VIP Demo for their anticipated MMO Anthem is now live! The trick is downloading it, which many haven’t been able to do.
Bioware’s Anthem is one of the most ambitious video games that will be released this winter — in the works since 2012, the game is an MMO where players form teams of armored “Freelancers” with a mission to explore the area surrounding their colony. It’s the wish of Bioware — and their parent company EA — that Anthem turns into their next big franchise. They already have a plan ready to go if that happens, stretching out ten years.
In an interview with CBC, BioWare boss Aaryn Flynn has revealed that the developer considers Anthem to be in the genre of science fantasy like Star Wars rather than the more grounded traditional science fiction. This essentially means that the game will focus more on the mythos of the world rather than having a scientific basic and explanation for everything that happens.
