Last fall Mana Project Studio and Don’t Panic Games introduced a crowdfunding campaign for their in-the-works roleplaying game based on the Cowboy Bebop anime. That campaign ended in November, but thanks to Backerkit, those who missed it now have a second chance. Most of the prizes offered in various tiers of the campaign are also available here, such as the GM screen, themed dice sets and playmats.
Call me crazy but I don’t think Square Enix’s recent obsession with NFTs and crypto is going to work out for them. With Forspoken failing to set the world on fire, and their recent president stepping down in disgrace, they need something new to rely on beyond Final Fantasy games. Maybe they can enter the manga market. Oh wait — they’re already doing that.
With the sensation Atelier Ryza has been creating, you’d think she was the first Atelier to ever exist….but that’s very not so. Koei Tecmo’s Atelier series of RPGs goes back to the PS1 with a solid TWENTY games, all titled “Atelier Somebody” and all pretty much flying under the radar. What’s so special about THIS one that it catapulted the entire series out of obscurity?
Spy x Family, one of our favorite anime to debut last year, will finally become physical this summer. Crunchyroll has announced a Blu-Ray set for SPY x FAMILY PART 1, which will contain the first twelve episodes of the show along with bonuses like footage of a con panel featuring the English dub cast, interviews with the Japanese cast, and of course, the inevitable Textless Closing Sequence. There will also be a DVD version of the release.
UDON Entertainment has published artbooks before, but few as hefty as the one they’re starting to talk about: a nearly 500-page volume devoted to the beloved anime Gurren Lagann. It’s one of the largest and most extensive book of sketches and art any anime has ever received.
The anime landscape is rife with shonen tournaments, isekai adventures and harem rom-coms, but there isn’t much we could claim was “one of a kind” — until Dr. Stone. A semi-educational “Bill Nye meets the apocalypse” program where real-world science drives the plot at all times is certainly unique for this genre, but it works. And we’ve been waiting for the third season for quite some time. Crunchyroll confirmed today that episodes will begin this April.
Cyberpunk 2077 may have had a hard time as a video game, but as an anime it’s had nothing but success. The animated spinoff Cyberpunk Edgerunners, produced for Netflix, took home the top prize in today’s Anime Awards. The event was hosted by a mix of movie directors, Hollywood actors, sports figures and Twitch influencers.
There’s drawn-out goodbyes, and then there’s Attack On Titan. What was billed as the “final season” by Studio MAPPA has ballooned into three now, with the third being the most unusual. Instead of a traditional batch of 24-minute episodes, AOT The Final Season Part Three will be released as two one-hour specials. The first of these premieres today.
Last night the heads of Crunchyroll took part in an open, live Q&A session in advance of tomorrow’s Anime Awards. On the mike were Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini, Chief Marketing Officer Gita Rebbapragada, and Chief Content Officer Asa Suehira. Questions were taken from around the world and the three gave their thoughts on fans’ comments, suggestions and concerns.
Every year, Fathom Events lines up a row of Studio Ghibli movies and picks a weekend or two each month to individually screen them. Some movies only reappear from Fathom on the bluest of moons, but Ghibli is a reliable enough attraction to always generate a crowd.
There’s a Japanese property called MUSCLE that was introduced to America through a series of small, pink figurines. MUSCLE is resurrected from time to time, but we have no idea if this is one of those times. What we do know is that MASHLE does have a lot to do with muscles.
