T-Rex skull discovered in Battlefield 3’s Armoured Kill DLC – is ‘Dino Mode’ coming?
From the moment Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment revealed Battlefield 3’s ‘Thunder Run’ campaign mission, showcased in June 2011, the game’s community has obsessed over the Tyrannosaurus Rex figurine the protagonist is clutching as the gameplay trailer begins. In a matter of hours, rumours regarding a possible ‘Dino Mode’ had spread like Utterly Butterly on a toasted crumpet.
DICE has since fuelled speculation by featuring dinosaur-related Easter Eggs in pre-order and post-launch DLC packs. First came dinosaur dog tags. Next, numerous hints were spotted on Back to Karkand map Wake Island, along with six hidden T-Rex miniatures. Today, we bring news that a T-Rex skull has been found on Armoured Kill map Alborz Mountain.
Take a look at the video embedded below, uploaded to YouTube yesterday by ‘GamerzStationHD’:
What could this mean? Is DICE planning to release a Jurassic Park-esque expansion pack for its incredibly popular FPS? Could December’s Aftermath add-on, or perhaps next year’s End Game, be the ‘Dino Mode’ franchise fans have be screaming out for? Or is the Swedish development studio trolling us again?
Happy musing.

I was sorta excited to play this with my friends on release day, so we all downloaded it and planned to play it for a couple hours that night. We all got on and jumped into the game, and about an hour later we were all playing Counter Strike: GO instead. What a horrible expansion. All the levels are bland and boring. A huge desert with some construction buildings, Caspian Border with less trees, a snow map with textures so bad it reminds me of skyrim, and finally Death Valley a map so blue that it makes me depressed just playing it.
Even close quarters kept us entertained for a while. Can’t wait for BF4 and the same modern combat setting as every other shooter game. Way to go Dice.

I guess it boils down to what you like. A couple of my friends won’t stop playing it. To be fair, it is tailored to vehicle combat on huge maps – to some, that’s epic, others, not their thing. Personally, I’ve avoided the expansion packs because I don’t play Battlefield 3 enough to warrant the price.
I, like you, am not happy about the B4 announcement though. There are too many modern shooters out – we do not need another copy/paste effort. I’d much prefer DICE make Bad Company 3. Yes, Bad Company too was a modern shooter, but at least it had character and didn’t take itself too seriously…

I’d rather they made Battlefield 2143, since that’s what just about everyone wants. Also, I don’t mind vehicle combat, I really don’t. But the levels are bland and boring, and the new game mode is also pretty bad. Tank superiority mode barely has any tanks at all, it’s mostly just “Tank Killers”, which are pretty much just APCs. It’s boring.

Battlefield 2143 would be welcomed by me, certainly – not to mention the fact that it would be an excellent counter to Treyarch’s Black Ops 2.
As for the DLC, that doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. I can see why you were disappointed with your purchase – perhaps Aftermath/End Game will be a better effort?
