Sword Art Online Movie Set for US Release
Aniplex USA has revealed that the next installment of the Sword Art Online anime series is going to receive a North American release in 2017. The new movie is Sword Art Online -Ordinal Scale-, and the new film will arrive in North America in March of 2017.
The film is going to have a special premiere event. It will be held at the Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, California on March 1, 2017. Event details can be found at this link. Following the premiere event will be the nationwide theatrical release.
The upcoming film features the return of the characters fans know and love from the series, including Kirito and Asuna. The film is set in 2026. A new machine called Augma has been made to compete against NerveGear and its successor, which is the Ampusphere. The Augma is a next-gen wearable device, and it doesn’t have a full-dive function like its predecessors. Instead, the Augma is an Augmented Reality device that takes players into the game. Also, players can use the game while they are conscious, which makes it an instant success. The most popular game with this device is the namesake of the title, Ordinal Scale (aka OS). This is a new Augmented Reality MMORPG that was developed for the Augma device.
Kirito, Asuna, and the rest of the gang begin playing Ordinal Scale. Asuna and her friends have actually been playing for a while before Kirito joins them. However, they soon discover that OS is not going to be all fun and games.
