Super Sonic Trailers: Movie Sequel And Sonic Frontiers
Not everyone got what they wanted out of The Game Awards last night, but if you tuned in for Sonic The Hedgehog news, you were at least satisfied there. The trailer for the movie Sonic The Hedgehog 2 debuted during the string of advertisements ceremony, as well as our first look at the highly anticipated next mainline game in the Sonic series.
The movie appeared first. As promised by the end scene in the first film, Tails is part of the story now, but seeing as the movie’s storyline is somewhat different from the games, he’s meeting Sonic for the first time — on Earth. At least Robotnik isn’t here anymore though — WAIT AAA THERE HE IS!!
It didn’t take the mad scientist very long to escape the dimension he’d been imprisoned in, and he had help: turns out there was this talking echidna over there who could be convinced Robotnik was a good egg. The doc was so convincing that Knuckles has arrived here to beat the quills out of Sonic, believing he’s evil. This will leave the giant Chaos Emerald he was guarding up for the taking!
All the actors from the first movie will return for Sonic The Hedgehog 2, including Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey as Robotnik. Colleen O’Shaughnessey, who voices Tails in the games, will reprise him here and Idris Elba provides the pipes of Knuckles.
Now for Sonic Frontiers. If it feels like it’s been a while since the last one, you’re not imagining things — Sega has stepped off the gas and stopped trying to produce Sonic games as quickly as possible. You may have noticed rushing these out has produced….less than admirable results. We hope the gamble pays off and that Sonic Frontiers is at least bug-free. Sonic Team Japan is working on this one, targeting a release window one year from now. Ian Flynn, longtime writer of the American Sonic comics, came up with the plot (looks like Sonic and the Colossus to us).
Sonic Forces will be out on everything in late 2022: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and PC.
