In a chat with USA Today, David Ayers, the upcoming director of Suicide Squad, talked about how the makeup of the team is very special for him. Not because they’re a bunch of epic superheroes or supervillains, but rather, that the characters and actors/actresses playing them are a very diverse group of people. Something that honestly at times struggles with.
“I’m glad that finally a franchise in a comic-book universe has gotten it right. Marvel (was) very slow to the diversity party.”
One of the peronsal favorites of Davis was Viola Davis, who plays Amanda Waller in the film:
“I loved the way she looked,” says Davis of the Waller seen in the comics. “I loved the Afro, I loved that she was a big woman because that woman seemed real to me.”
He finishes by noting that it shouldn’t be about fulfilling rosters, or dream teams, but rather, being about what we see in everyday life:
“It’s less about ticking boxes,” he says. “It’s important for kids to see people who look like them in movies.”
Suicide Squad does have a wide cast, including heroes and villains from multiple countries and ethnic backgrounds. Katana, El Inferno, Amanda Waller, Slipknot, and more are in it, and that’s just talking character wise.
Who is Starro? The Third trailer of the Suicide Squad is now out, and it introduced its main antagonist. He is something people doesn’t expect because he is a giant Starfish. It all started with Bloodsport(Idris Elba) confronting Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). She is forcing him to join the squad
