Live Action Street Fighter movie is being Developed by Legendary pictures
Legendary Entertainment will be making a Live Action Street Fighter movie.
The two live action Street Fighter movies scarred me for life. Although Raul Julia’s performance as M.Bison in the Street Fighter Movie (1994) was commendable, the movie itself was terrible. It spitted on the source material and it screams racism when they Demoted Ryu as main character. They do that in favor of the White Caucasian military guy, Guile. Capcom does not have a Good track record when it comes to letting other companies making movies out of their properties. Not a Single Resident Evil Live action movie is Good.
The Second Attempt for a live action Street Fighter movie is Legend of Chun-li. Kristin Kreuk’s career was almost killed by that bad movie. During that era, Hollywood refused to put Asian males on centerstage, so they chose Chun-li instead because they considered Asian females more palatable. Chun-li’s story is easy to adapt since she is a cop from China who wants to avenge her father’s death. It is an easy trope to write but they manage to still screw it up.
Legendary Entertainment did a great job with their Godzilla movies but I am still skeptical because I have not seen a single official live action adaptation of a Capcom game that is good.
There is One Good live action Street Fighter Adaptation and that is Assassin’s fist but its not official and it is only a fan movie.
Despite the lack of budget the people behind that movie are able to pour their heart on that movie. Then Street Fighter IV director Yoshinori Oda likes it that he made a cameo on that movie. I hope Legendary Pictures considers getting people behind that project as part of their team. Hire people who are fans of Street Fighter instead of writers who knows nothing about the Source material and will abuse their creative liberties. Do not make Movie exclusive characters like Alice From Resident Evil movies and Cole Young from Mortal Kombat. No more OG movie exclusive characters please. I hope Legendary Pictures will listen to fans, Look what wonders listening to fans did to “The Last of Us” and ‘Sonic the Hedgehog”
The Street Fighter Universe is vast enough to become it’s own cinematic universe if Legendary will make this right.
