Star Wars: The Old Republic Going Free to Play?
It’s no secret that The Old Republic has been struggling in the MMO market ever since its deceptively large launch. With dwindling subscription numbers and very little to entice people to stick around after finishing the main narrative, going Free-to-play may be ToR’s only hope to survive into the future. The Old Republic’s lead designer Emmanuel Lusinchi had this to say about the MMO’s potential switch to the Free-to-play model,
The MMO market is very dynamic and we need to be dynamic as well,” he says. “Unless people are happy with what they have, they are constantly demanding updates, new modes and situations. So we are looking at free-to-play but I can’t tell you in much detail. We have to be flexible and adapt to what is going on.
So there you have it. Only time will tell if they actually take the jump or not. Would ToR going Free-to-play entice you to try it out? Tell us what you think below.

I’m with the above comment, not my thing. This is good business though, because how many people think the same thing, but like it after they try it. Having it free is good, but it has downsides too, money would be from things bought i figure, maybe some in game advertisements, but mostly bought things. So its people throwing money at each other in the end, and for the lower users who can’t afford to do that, they might get bitter(lack of better word) in time from people who are less skilled, or less dedicated, being so far above them. Ultimately it would turn them off of those developers and that type of game, mmo in this case. Either way, they will make more money in the long run going this route i figure because people will never have to quit due to a monthly subscription price. So they will linger and maybe spend a few bucks here and there even after they are over the game.
