Star Wars Rebels: Darth Vader Is Back in New Trailer
Star Wars Rebels is about at its mid-season point. As a result, Disney XD and Lucasfilm have dropped a special, new mid-season trailer with a lot of new footage for the back half of the season. And if you thought the first half of the season for Star Wars Rebels has been good so far, the next half looks like it will be even better. You can check out the new trailer in the player below.
For one thing, Darth Vader will definitely be making another appearance this season, voiced by the great James Earl Jones. There’s a lot of juicy new footage, including this season’s appearance for Princess Leia, and a character who might be related to the Ghost Crew’s pilot, Hera. In addition, there are glimpses of yet another Inquisitor character. Not only that, there will be what appears to be a knockdown, drag out lightsaber duel with six, count ’em, six lightsaber wielders. It will be Kanan Jarrus, Ezra Bridger and Ahsoka Tano against three of the nefarious Inquisitors. I’m not sure such a battle has ever taken place in Star Wars media before, at least in the current official canon.
It looks like Yoda will also be back this season. There’s footage of Ezra conversing with Yoda face-to-face. However, it appears the conversation could be taking place on some sort of astral plane in their minds. In addition, it looks like Ezra will be tempted by the Dark Side of the Force, and he meets a rather ominous looking character named the “Old Master.” There’s even an appearance of a triple-edged lightsaber. Of course, there’s also some clips of the inevitable duel between Ahsoka Tano and Darth Vader.
So far, the rest of the season looks even more epic than the first half, and that’s saying quite a lot because the show has been quite epic so far. It’s hard to see Ahsoka Tano getting out of this season with all these Inquisitors roaming about, not to mention Darth Vader. I’m not sure Ahsoka could survive that face-to-face meeting with Darth Vader. However, it could make for a heroic sacrifice and effective ending for the character this season. That would be a heck of a way to end the season with Ahsoka vs. Darth Vader.
Star Wars Rebels Season 2 continues on Wednesday, January 20 with the new episode “A Princess on Lothal,” which features Princess Leia. The show airs on Disney XD.
