Star Wars: IDW Publishing Comic for Young Readers
During this week’s Star Wars Celebration event, Lucasfilm Publishing and IDW Publishing announced a new Disney-licensed Star Wars comic that’s aimed at younger readers. Strangely enough, Marvel Comics isn’t going to publish it. Basically, Disney Book Group LLC granted IDW Publishing the license to create and publish new Star Wars comics aimed at younger readers.
Speaking on the news, Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain stated: “Lucasfilm is thrilled to expand our relationship with the talented and creative folks at IDW to bring Star Wars comics to kids. IDW has an incredible pedigree of talent, and we look forward to working with them on the creation of these fun, action-packed adventures that span the entire Star Wars saga.”
The launch title for IDW will be Star Wars Adventures, which is due out in fall 2017. It’s part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi publishing program. This will include an array of content leading up to the new Star Wars Saga cinematic sequel, Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Honestly, it’s a little surprising that IDW is publishing these books instead of Marvel Comics. However, it seems like a good strategy to publish some comics and stories aimed at younger readers and all-ages demos.
Storyline details and creative teams for the all-ages books will be revealed later on. You can check out some sample artwork for Star Wars Adventures below.
