Star Wars Episode VIII Title Revealed
2017 will see the release of another new Star Wars movie. This one will be Star Wars: Episode VIII, which will be the latest chapter in what Lucasfilm calls the “Skywalker Saga.” However, today Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios finally revealed the actual title for Star Wars: Episode VIII. The title has been revealed as The Last Jedi. A new poster image which was also revealed, which you can check out below. Click on the thumbnail to see the full-size image.
The title seems to be an obvious reference to Luke Skywalker, who at the time of The Force Awakens is obviously the last Jedi Knight. The titular crawl for The Force Awakens actually even referred to Skywalker as “the last Jedi.” Additionally, Rey or any other Force sensitive characters who might appear in the sequel are clearly not Jedi yet.
Luke Skywalker’s role ended up being surprisingly brief for The Force Awakens. So hopefully, he will have a more significant and encompassing role in the plot this time that will be more satisfying to fans.
Star Wars: The last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson. The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, with The Force Awakens filmmaker J.J. Abrams executive producing the project along with Jason McGatlin and Tom Karnowski. The sequel opens in theaters on December 15, 2017.
