Square Enix is known for their RPG franchises, with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest being among their top tiers. However, that doesn’t mean that they haven’t had other major RPG franchises. One that has gotten a cult following of sorts Star Ocean, a franchise that has had many titles, and quite a few remakes in 2017. It never reached the height of the other franchises, but it had some big hits. And now, Square Enix is going to be bringing over the newest one to the West this July, but only to mobile platforms. It’s called Star Ocean: Anamnesis.
There’s a bit of a twist in this one though, as the game plays a little bit like a greatest hits album. You’ll understand why in the synopsis below:
Star Ocean: Anamnesis puts players in the captain’s chair as they lead a squad of heroes across the galaxy. They will have the freedom to build endless strategic and iconic teams with returning all-star characters from the STAR OCEAN series, choosing between attackers, sharpshooters, defenders, invokers and healers to assemble a powerful crew. Enhanced mobile-specific controls will have users experience fast-paced real-time combat with gorgeous 3D graphics. For the first time in the series, players will also be able to tackle missions together in a brand-new co-op multiplayer mode.
But that’s not all, Square Enix is also offering a bonus set of prizes depending on how many people pre-register for the game. If enough people join in, you’ll get Star Ocean characters Welch Vineyard and Faize for free. To pre-register, you can go to the game’s Twitter, Facebook, or the Google Play store, it’s your choice.
This is a new direction for the franchise, and it’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out. The game will release on Android and iOS this July.
