Star Fox 64 Metal Tribute Arwing Odyssey Now Available
The world of Star Fox is quite a trippy place. Spark-edged polygonal ships piloted by talking animals driving through boxy environments and shooting at ominous floating triangles. If you think the experience would benefit from a prog rock soundtrack, so do we. But it took rock arranger Ro Panuganti to make it happen: he presents Arwing Odyssey,
“Arwing Odyssey is an album designed around speed, with more tracks hitting hard out the gate,” comments Panuganti. “I was excited to use more 8-string friendly techniques on guitar like thump and tons of sound design as well to recreate fun effects in the game. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to produce an album this clear, punchy, and play around with voice acting and monster sounds all at once. Fans of Star Fox and modern metal will hopefully appreciate and enjoy the extra care going into its big over-the-top sound.”
No track listing this time — what you get is simply the entire Star Fox 64 soundtrack by Koji Kondo and Hajime Wakai, rearranged with a metal edge. It’s 19 tracks in all totaling 38 minutes. You figure out how to splice it into your game.
You can get Arwing Odyssey starting today through this link on all digital storefronts and streaming platforms. A vinyl edition is now in production via Respawned Records, and should show up sometime in 2023.
