Square Enix Movie Universe Desired?
Shared movie universes are all the rage in Hollywood right now. And to a degree for good reason. The idea of crossovers to build upon what has happened in solo films is exciting. Not to mention, if done, right, it’ll make a ton of money.
For comic franchises, and certain blockbuster franchises like Transformers, this doesn’t seem so far fetched. For video game movies? It’s a big stretch. As none have truly “made their mark” on Hollywood to the extent that it would be worthy of a shared universe with it’s fellow gaming titles.
One man though wants that. Adrian Askarieh, who was the producer on the recent Hitman: Agent 47, told IGN that he has a dream of a Square Enix Movie Universe. One that’ll feature Hitman, Just Cause, Thief, and Tomb Raider.
“It could, possibly. It all depends on how successful Hitman is. If Hitman is successful enough, and we can plug other characters into that universe, great. But if – god forbid – it’s not, Just Cause will be separate.”
He went on to say: “If everything was entirely up to me, it would be Just Cause, Hitman, and Lara Croft in the same universe, and Deus Ex would be the future of that universe and Thief would be the past. Unfortunately, I don’t have Lara Croft, and Hitman needs to be a big hit for that to happen. But I think Just Cause can be in the Hitman Universe or it can be on its own.”
For the record, a Just Cause movie is in development, and Tomb Raider could get a movie reboot given the success of the games. However, Askarieh doesn’t have the rights to Tomb Raider at present. Should this happen? Should several video games like these have a shared universe? Let us know your thoughts!

It will never happen and it can’t happen. There isn’t even an actual Square Enix universe.
