Sony Pictures Plans To Kill Robin Hood
Is it time for another Robin Hood movie already? The last one starred Russell Crowe and came out in 2010. Seems a bit too early to hit the recycle button, but this is Sony Pictures we’re talking about, the company that would give us 15 SpiderMen in three years if they could.
Another Robin Hood? You may feel like yawning when you hear this news, but hold that mouth until you read the synopsis. The proposed movie is called “Marian” and has little to do with the actual Robin Hood at all. In fact, he dies in the opening scene. According to Deadline:
After a conspiracy to conquer England in which the love of her life Robin Hood dies before her eyes, Marian picks up the cause to lead her people into a pivotal war. She comes to power, charging into a battle that will not only decide the fate of the kingdom but will see her don the mantle of the man she loved. In the process, she rises as a legend herself.
That sounds….actually pretty awesome! And Margot Robbie is attached to play the title character. The script is being written by Pete Barry and Donald De Line and Amy Pascal are producing.
If the production gets far enough to begin shooting, Sony may have to wait a bit for some of Robbie’s time. She’s currently being filmed for I Tonya, a biopic about the Harding/Kerrigan feud of 1994 (she plays Harding). She’s also attached to two children’s movies based on Peter Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh respectively, as well as Gotham City Sirens, a proposed DC superhero film focused on Gotham’s female characters. Guess who she’d be playing again.
But if she can work time to play Maid Marian into her schedule, the movie could become a reality. It currently has no release date.
