Sega has announced two more classic titles from its library will be added to the SEGA AGES collection on Nintendo Switch: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and Puyo Puyo 2.

Sonic 2 appeared most recently on the Genesis Mini, but the Switch version will contain a few additions that weren’t part of that version. For one, the mid-air spin dash introduced in Sonic Mania (officially named the “drop dash”) will be added to the game. More importantly, this version of Sonic 2 will contain a demanded feature that hasn’t been seen since the release of Sonic Mega Collection on Gamecube….

KNUCKLES! Originally on the Genesis, you could use the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on cart to patch Sonic 2 with the ability to play the entire game as the echidna instead of the ‘hog. The feature has only made occasional appearances since, and Sega has never stated why (is it hard to emulate? We don’t know). But it is once again possible in this version.

The Switch version of Sonic 2 also has a Time Trial mode, an online ranking board and the new Super Sonic Mode, which starts you out as the emerald-powered super-hedgehog….the challenge becomes gobbling up enough rings to maintain it.

As for Puyo Puyo 2, the SEGA AGES version will be the original Japanese version of the color-matching puzzle game, localized into English for the first time, with no beans or machines to speak of. Not that we have anything against Mean Bean Machine, but we’ve never had the option of the original before. Like Sonic 2, Puyo Puyo 2 will have extra features: two-player online battles, an online ranking board, the ability to rewind, and a colorblind mode.

Look for Sonic 2 and Puyo Puyo 2 on Nintendo Switch February 20.
