Some Off-Screen Footage Of the New Tomb Raider
Fresh from NY Comic Con, check out this video of a new look at some pre-beta, demo game-play from the intro to Crystal Dynamic’s upcoming title Tomb Raider.
(Apologies for the ad; such is what happens when you borrow from commercialized sites!)
The game is showing some true visual polish and seems very promising in that regard; the environment, lighting, and usage of water are suggesting brilliant levels of immersion for the gamer.
As for the gameplay, it’s easy to note the Assassin’s-Creed-esque nature of this specific cut. Here’s to hoping, however, that action and interaction with the environment are not overly cumbersome, repetitive, or heavyhanded; Croft’s movements did seem remarkably fluid, and the pacing of her trip just long enough to let the player enjoy the scenery before jumping back into an attention-filing task. My worries are, temporarily, quelled.
Really, I’ve found very little to pick at with what I’ve seen of the game thus far. It’s promising to be a new take on a successful franchise, but rather than fretting over whether it’ll be a new Duke Nuke’Em Forever, I’m entirely optimistic. Crystal Dynamics, don’t you dare let me down!

Aside from the fact that they managed to cast a british actress without a natural british accent, I’m looking forward to this game.
I never was interested enough in the previous installments to pick up a copy because the character was always so sexualized. This promises to be a more realistic take on the character and it has me very interested.
Course, developers have botched more with less so there’s a distinct possibility this could fail. Time will tell I suppose.

this is the most interesting tomb raider to date, speaking as someone who has never played the series. it looks remarkably good from all the video and press coverage i’ve seen so far. this just leaves me wondering: a) is it exclusive to any one system?
b) mass effect 3 looked good at this stage as well… >:(

Nah, man, not exclusive! They’re saying PS3, PC, and 360.
Anyways, as for Mass Effect 3, I think that game was amazing if you exclude the last 10 minutes. And, 10 minutes out of what, 30-ish hours? That’s less than 1% of the game… an important 1% but, psht, I’ll take that as pretty good and use my vivid, hyper-active imagination to replace that traumatizing, ten minute experience with something more satisfying. Like, Shepard bursting into dance and the Reapers laughing to death. (Yeah, now you all know who REALLY shouldn’t have been trusted with the ending to that series…)

It looks like Crystal Dynamics has been playing a lot of Uncharted prior to development, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The footage was exciting to watch, and didn’t give me the “yawn, get on with it” feeling. I loved Nathan Drake’s adventures, so providing Tomb Raider is both style AND substance, it’s likely I’ll invest in it in January.
