Sindel is back and she might be in the good side this time around.
**In the ever-evolving world of Mortal Kombat, few characters have undergone such dramatic shifts in alignment as Sindel.**
Known for her dual, ever-changing roles as both a villain and a hero, Sindel’s journey through the Mortal Kombat franchise has seen her transform from an evil villain to a conflicted hero and back again. Her allegiance has oscillated between darkness and light, weaving a narrative full of surprises that parallels the twists and turns of a professional wrestling storyline. Much like a wrestling icon who can switch between heel and face personas.
Sindel and Shao Kahn Mortal Kombat trailer
**The Twisted Timelines:**
With the advent of Liu Kang’s ascension to the role of Fire God, the Mortal Kombat timeline took a sharp turn, altering the alignment of many characters, including Sindel. Her role as the Queen of Edenia was plagued by manipulation and brainwashing in past iterations. In one timeline, she was forced into marriage with Shao Kahn after his conquest of Edenia, her loyalty to him cemented by deceit. Another saw her aligning herself with Onaga, embracing her villainous nature. However, amidst the tumultuous sea of changing alliances, a recurring theme of maternal reconciliation emerged. In some timelines, Sindel would break free from brainwashing, seeking solace in her relationship with Princess Kitana, her daughter. These moments of motherly redemption stood as beacons of hope in her narrative arc, hinting at the possibility of her eventual redemption.
**A Revenant’s Resurgence:**
Skipping forward to Mortal Kombat X, Sindel’s presence took on an eerie tone as she appeared as one of Quan Chi’s revenants. In this capacity, Sindel fought on the side of the Netherrealm, continuing her dance between darkness and light. A revenant is an undead warrior under Quan Chi’s control.
**Mortal Kombat 11’s Shifting Sands:**
In Mortal Kombat 11, Sindel’s alignment showcased its most intricate dance yet. Initially portrayed as a loving mother, she reconciled with Kitana, only to betray her later. It was revealed that she had killed her husband, King Jerrod, to marry Shao Kahn and secure her place by his side. However, the new timeline depicted a starkly different Sindel – a widow, a good mother to twin daughters Kitana and Mileena, and an ally of Fire God Liu Kang. This shift in her character added surprise to the narrative, highlighting the evolution of Sindel’s role in the Mortal Kombat universe.
**Now to the new reboot Mortal Kombat 1:**
Sindel returns in a different light. Since Liu Kang becomes the Fire God, and also the Guardian of Time, he decided to give Kitana a happier life in this new timeline. Sindel is now a loving mother, who grieves the death of her husband, King Jerrod. Mileena is not Kitana’s clone anymore, she is now her sister. Kitana, who usually rejects her clone, Mileena, is now a loving younger sister to Mileena. Also in this new timeline, Sindel is not married to Shao Kahn. Shao Kahn is still mean and rude, but I still don’t know if he is a full villain or not. Though he seems to dislike Liu Kang.
**He is Sindel’s champion to represent the Outworld:**
In the Mortal Kombat universe, Shao Kahn is usually portrayed as looking ugly, with a monstrous face in the past timelines. He was also bulky and beast-like in terms of his muscles. However, this time, his body is more proportionate. He is still muscular, but not in the intimidating bodybuilder type. If you know what I mean. And despite his face still looking like a monster, he is much more handsome in this new timeline. Shao Kahn this time is a general who competes in Mortal Kombat tournaments to represent the Outworld. In the trailer, we get a switch of roles. Because ever since Liu Kang became a champion, Raiden, the God of Thunder, got demoted into a human. And now he is younger than Liu Kang. Liu Kang chose Raiden as the champion of the Earthrealm. And he seems to have a rivalry with Shao Kahn.
**Shao Kahn looks more agile when it comes to his fighting style:**
In Mortal Kombat, because he is much slimmer in this timeline. He uses an axe instead of a hammer. And now that he is faster, it makes him much scarier in appearance. But I guess he will be more balanced in combat compared to his past overpowered versions. Sindel still fights using her screams and her hair as weapons. But this time around, her hair becomes as thick as a 1980’s glam rock star, making her look larger due to her hair. Just like her previous versions, she uses her hair as tentacles to attack her enemies. In the trailer, Sindel used her fatality against Shao Kahn.
**I guess that is her revenge after being married to him in multiple timelines:**
Ah! Motaro is also revealed as a cameo character. And he uses his attacks as assists. There are clips in the trailer showing that Shao Kahn will probably betray Sindel. Because he was shown attacking the Umgadis.
**Changes in Past Trailers of Mortal Kombat 1:**
In previous Mortal Kombat 1 trailers, other characters who have shown shifts in alignments include Reptile, who was usually a villain in past iterations but is now one of the heroes. Bi-Han, who previously became Noob Saibot, is now Sub-Zero in this new timeline. Instead of being Scorpion’s mortal enemy, he is now Scorpion’s brother. Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be released on September 19, 2023.
