Shovel Knight Getting A Physical Release
As somewhat of a game collector, I prefer physical releases to digital ones, to the point where I’ll double-dip if I have to just to get something on my shelf. Looks like I’m gonna have to.
Yacht Club Games’ major indie hit Shovel Knight has now been released discless on every platform. The one market that hasn’t been penetrated by the knight’s mighty shovel is brick and mortar. Now that will change — today Yacht Club announced physical copies of the game will be made for Wii U, 3DS, PS4 and XBox One. The digital version costs $15; the retail game will cost $20.
The mere assurance of a real-world data disc that The Man can’t take from you PT-style might not be enough for some people, so Yacht Club is going to sweeten the deal to make that extra $5 worth it. If you buy the physical release of Shovel Knight, you will not only get the game, but all future add-ons and extra content that will be created for the game will be free for you. And there is a lot coming: the Plague of Shadows expansion, which will let you play a modified version of the game as Plague Knight; Battle Mode, the Specter Knight’s campaign, King Knight’s campaign, and even more, plus additions to the game they haven’t dreamed up yet. It can all be yours!
And so can the instruction manual, which was previously only available to Shovel Knight’s Kickstarter backers past a certain donation point. Yacht Club promises, “No two-page inserts here! You deserve a full manual, to hold in your hot little shaking hands and pore over as you wait to get home!” Hallelujiah!
Shovel Knight on disc, with its manual and snapper case, will arrive October 13 in stores across America. Europeans will get the release also, but a few days later on October 16.
