Shovel Knight Gets Its Final Expansion Next Spring
When you consider that Shovel Knight is perhaps THE most successful retro-style indie game of its kind, you have to wonder why there’s never been a sequel. Instead, Yacht Club Games has been content to produce DLC content and add-ons for the original. It was 2014 when the original version of the game came out. By the time it’s “finished” it will be about five years old.
Shovel Knight has had three different DLC campaigns to date. A fourth was announced in 2017, and they just announced a fifth today. Both the fourth and fifth expansions, called King of Cards and Shovel Knight Showdown respectively, are now due out in the spring of 2019.
While King of Cards is a traditional side-scroller like the rest, Showdown is a multiplayer fighting game that will also be sold separately. If you bought Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, both DLCs are covered by that purchase, but there will also be an updated Treasure Trove that includes everything physically.
King of Cards will be supported by every version of this game in existence: PS4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Wii U, PS Vita, PC, Mac, Linux, 3DS and even Amazon Fire TV. Shovel Knight Showdown will also be out for most of those (even the Wii U) but will not appear on Mac, Linux or Amazon Fire.
Newcomers can get Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove with everything for $39.99. if you might be reluctant, rest assured that THIS is truly the last time the game will be expanded…..uh, we think.
