Marvel’s Secret Wars Dominates the Top Ten Sales Charts for Comics in July
It’s almost a given that when either DC or Marvel has an event, that the main title, along with the tie-ins, usually make it into the top ten in regards to sales. For July however, Marvel absolutely dominated the charts. Secret Wars (both the main book and the tie-ins) took up 8 of the top 10 spots. That’s impressive, more impressive when you realize that the tie-ins are technically either brand new stories, or re-tellings of classic Marvel stories in the new world that Secret Wars inhabits.
The only two titles to not be Marvel was Batman #42, which features Jim Gordon as the new Batman, and the reboot of the Archie franchise with Archie #1. Here’s the complete top ten according to Diamond Sales Figures:
1) Secret Wars #4 (Marvel)
2) Star Wars: Lando #1 (Marvel)
3) Civil War #1 (Marvel)
4) Star Wars #7 (Marvel)
5) Batman #42 (DC)
6) Star Wars: Darth Vader #7 (Marvel)
7) Archie #1 (Archie)
8) Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows #2 (Marvel)
9) Age of Apocalypse #1 (Marvel)
10) Guardians of Nowhere #1 (Marvel)
Marvel came out as the top-selling publisher, with 38.43% dollar share and 41.59% unit share. DC followed with 23.94% dollar share and 24.30% unit share, while Image came in third place with 9.48% dollar share and 10.72% unit share. Unsurprisingly, high sales for Archie #1 helped boost Archie Comics’ numbers significantly, as they rose to 2.28% dollar share and 2.62% unit share.
