Sean Astin, Paul Reiser Join Stranger Things Cast
Netflix’s Stranger Things has cast some familiar faces from the past for the next season (set for 2017). Both Sean Astin and Paul Reiser have been confirmed to have roles. Astin became famous in the 80’s, but Reiser didn’t really become a household name until Mad About You in the 90’s. In the 80’s, he was locking Ripley and Newt in soundproof rooms with Facehuggers.
Astin, who became famous through playing Mikey in The Goonies (an obvious Stranger Things influence), will be doing the irony thing by guest-starring in Season Two as new character Bob Newby. Bob is described as “A kindhearted former nerd who went to high school with Joyce (Winona Ryder) and Hopper (David Harbour) and now manages the local Hawkins Radio Shack.” Remember Radio Shack? They’re actually still around, but barely, and probably grateful for the placement. After what Season One did for Eggo I doubt any company would object to being mentioned now.
As for Reiser, he is playing Dr. Owens, “a high-ranking member within the Department of Energy on a ‘clean-up’ assignment, tasked with containing the events of last year.” Yup, he’ll be closer to Burke than Paul Buchman. And the Duffer Brothers said Cameron films would be an influence.
Netflix revealed a role for Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen within the same announcement. She is playing Roman, “an emotionally damaged, magnetic young woman who suffered a great loss as a child. Although she does not live in Hawkins, she is mysteriously connected to the supernatural events at the lab.” The Duffers previously said the opening scene of Season Two would not take place in Hawkins. Maybe we meet her then. This is Berthelsen’s first American role.
