SDCC 2018: Batman: The Animated Series Cast Talk 25th Anniversary Of Series
When people talk about some of the greatest animated series ever to exist, one of the ones that’s always at the top of the conversation is Batman: The Animated Series. While this technically wasn’t the first Batman cartoon, and certainly not the last, it was most definitely the best, and still remains a staple of how to blend visuals, voice acting, and epic stories all into a 23-episode story. The impact of this show led to the creation of spinoffs like Superman TAS as well as two Justice League cartoons.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the series, and at San Diego Comic-Con, the cast of the show reunited to talk about their thoughts and feelings of the show:
“Every damn episode of this series was movie quality,” said Tara Strong, voice of Barbara Gordon/Batgirl and Harley Quinn. “You feel like you’re in the comic that you grew up loving … That’s why it holds up.”
For THE voice of Batman, Kevin Conroy, it was more about the thrill of being not just Batman, but acting alongside legends like Mark Hamill, who is THE voice of Joker.
“To be in a booth with Mark Hamill is dangerous,” Conroy said, going into detail about the physicality that Hamill brought to the role. “He’s got a Jim Carrey, kind of rubbery face going… it’s a dangerous place to be!”
Batman: The Animated Series will be getting the Blu-Ray treatment this year, with each of the original 85 episodes getting the remastered treatment. You can check out some stories from the series via the writing team below.
