Scan QR Codes Using Kinect on Xbox One
Microsoft has revealed that the Kinect which comes bundled with the Xbox One will be able to read QR codes. QR codes will also replace the massive 25 digit codes that are currently used on the Xbox 360 for redeeming items such as gold subscriptions, arcade games and DLC.
In a Tweet Marc Whitten, Corporate Vice President of Xbox, confirmed the use of QR codes which was in response to an image that first appeared on reddit. “To my reddit friends — yup — this works!” wrote Whitten.
Many reddit users have been quick to voice their opinion about the use of QR codes and the majority seem to think it’s a great solution. “That…..is actually a good idea.” Wrote TheDieLawn. While fellow commenter fadetogloss may have thought of an even better solution saying “Would love to be able to do this from my smart glass app as well.”
The scanning of QR codes appears to be one of the most useful applications Kinect revealed thus far; hopefully Microsoft will have a few more genuinely useful applications of Kinect to reveal in the coming months.
What do you think? Are QR codes a good idea or do you prefer the 25 digit codes? Sound off in the comments below.
