Run A Horror Newspaper In Daily Chthonicle On Steam
Keeping your readers entertained and your reporters alive are you main goals in Daily Chthonicle, an Early Access game that has you acting as Editor of a horror newspaper. By choosing where to send your reporters, what to arm them with, and what to look into, you can help sell reams of papers about ghosts, ghouls, and other monsters that stalk the night.
So, do you send someone out poorly-armed in hopes they somehow survive, risking losing them and the story? Do you send someone deeper into trouble? With several stories all available to be researched on each playthrough, what risks are you willing to take with the lives of others to make those all-important sales numbers? Good zombie stories don’t write themselves, after all.
You’ve got an array of detectives, occult specialists, and journalists working for you, and you can send them out on an array of potential leads. Some of them turn up nothing, others might find cults, werewolves, and other beasts. Still, those things are all kinda dangerous, so hopefully you thought to arm your news hounds. But weapons costs money, and you’re in the newspaper business to make cash, not waste it.
Describing Daily Chthonicle, developer Sinister Systems has said:
“This game lets you try on the role of a Supernatural Newspaper Agency boss and editor. The world it takes place in is a dark and haunted one, with ghosts, zombies, monsters and even shapeshifting murderers, pretending to be human after they have stolen their victims’ bodies or infiltrated the humanity. It was inspired heavily by the works of H.P.Lovecraft and it builds on the atmosphere of uncertainty and noir of the 1940s.”
Each time, the story will be different. Sometimes, a werewolf is shredding innocent (and less innocent) victims to pieces and it is your task to unmask the creature. Other times, it will be a body stealing alien from outer space, a mummy that some misfortunate archeologist has excavated and is now haunting them. Perhaps it will be Jack the Ripper, still mysteriously alive and lurking in the streets at night.
