Rumour: Sony set to release new, even slimmer PS3?
Sony de-bulked the PlayStation 3 once back in 2009 and now it looks like they could be set to de-bulk the console further with a newer console release.
The news comes from a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filling, which details the PlayStation model numbers CECH-4000A and CECH-4000B, whereas the current PS3 model is CECH-3000.
While the FCC filling doesn’t specifically mention dimensions, there have been rumours of Sony prepping to launch a thinner PS3 during German trade show Gamescom this August, much like they did with the last PS3 redesign in 2009 (via Eurogamer).
We saw a cheap, slimline PS2 released during the end of the PlayStation 2’s life, so even though we’ve seen one PS3 redesign, it wouldn’t be out-of-character for Sony to bring out a smaller, cheaper PS3 so late into the console’s life now.
