Romance movies that didn’t age well to today’s society
Romance movies, I am a sucker for them. When I binge them on my couch while eating a tub of Ice cream. It is hard for me to explain why I love them, but It’s a distraction I needed during quarantine. Everybody wants to find love in some way or form. Here are some romance films that were beloved during their prime but will be seen as creepy in today’s society.
Romance movies that didn’t age well:
We will start the list with a film that gave us the most romantic ballad of 1979. The songs “Simply Jessie” and “You take my breath away came from this movie. It launched the Career of Rex Smith as a Pop Idol.
Sooner or Later (1979)
Sooner or Later is about a 13 year old girl name Jessie who develops a crush to an Older Musician named Michael. She saw him performing in a mall and fell in love at first site. To get close to him, she faked her age and pretend to be older. Yes he fell in love with her and even wrote a song after her name. They will break up when he find out he is hooking up with a Minor.
Chances Are (Gave us the Song “After All”) (1989)
A man died, and he begged God to bring him back to Earth to be with his wife and daughter. He got back to Earth and Reincarnated as his daughter’s teenage boyfriend. His Past life’s consciousness suddenly wakes up, so he will try to seduce his wife while dating his daughter.
Mclintock (1963)
King of Westerns, John Wayne pairs up again with his favorite leading Lady, Maureen O’Hara. People from the 1960s think this movie is funny and romantic. It is about a town where women rebelled against the Patriarchy. So all the men in town will try to win their wives and girlfriends back by putting them in their place and spanking them in the butt.
Beauty and the Beast (All versions)
The Foster child of Stockholm syndrome. Nothing is more romantic than falling in love with the man who kidnapped you. I will never let my future daughters have someone like Belle as a role model.

I love the song Simply Jessie. Growing up and finding out the movie where it came from ruined everything for me. Chances also have a ridiculous plot, and I can’t believe it got counted as a classic romance film. I also hate “My best friend’s wedding” The main character is an annoying homewrecker who doesn’t deserve any form of a happy ending.

The Mclintock one is no shocker to me. 1960’s is such a sexist era that I saw a coffee commercial where a man is verbally abusive to his wife. There are also use to be movies where women fell in love to their rapist.
