River City Ransom Turns 30 — And There’s A New Game On The Way
Anyone remember the classic NES brawler River City Ransom? You ran through the neighborhood as a superdeformed street tough on a rescue mission, encountering countless scores of gangs and hitting them until they literally said “BARF”? Anyone played it and liked it? Or, at least, have you heard of such a thing?
Then you should be pleased to hear that unlike some other Japanese properties, River City Ransom hasn’t fallen into oblivion, been repurposed as a phone game or been destroyed. There’s a new sequel coming in honor of the original’s 30th anniversary, River City: Tokyo Rumble, and it will be on 3DS!
Natsume announced this weekend that it’s bringing the brawler Stateside this year, and the English version will be playable at E3. You’ll be able to play as several characters from the series, play against a friend either locally or online, and even play a game of dodgeball. Unlockable material will keep you playing for a while, from special moves you can earn to bonus content you can access. You won’t be paying extra for it, you’ll be earning it!
Sounds great, doesn’t it? We’ll wait for the E3 impressions before declaring it so, but we’re hyped currently.
