Ride On, Jackie Chan’s Tribute to Stuntmen
Ride on shows us the struggles of Stuntmen when they reach the retirement age.
Jackie Chan, who began his career as a stuntman and wa one of those goons beaten up by Bruce Lee in films, has made a comeback with his latest movie, “Ride On”. Unlike his previous works, this film is not a Hong Kong production, but a mainland China movie. It pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the movie industry, the stuntmen, who put their lives at risk for the sake of entertainment.
Directed by Larry Yang, known for his previous works such as “Mountain Cry” and “The Bittersweet”, “Ride On” explores the complicated relationship between a father and his estranged daughter, a popular theme in both Asian and Asian American films today. The trailer reveals that the movie has a certain charm, and it will be interesting to see how Chan’s performance will be received.
It is worth noting that the Daniels initially offered Jackie Chan the lead role in “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once“, an Oscar-winning movie. However, Chan declined the offer due to his busy schedule. The Daniels then genderswapped the character and offered the role to Michelle Yeoh instead.
It’s exciting to see Jackie Chan make a comeback with “Ride On”, and it’s clear that the movie is close to his heart, paying homage to his roots in the industry. With Larry Yang’s direction, and the film’s exploration of themes like generational trauma, “Ride On” promises to be an emotional and compelling story.
