Resistance 4 was “seriously considered” by Insomniac Games, but ultimately shelved
According to Insomniac Games Chief Executive Ted Price, Resistance 4 was a serious consideration for the development studio, but a desire to do something new halted plans to advance the post-apocalyptic sci-fi shooter.
When Insomniac announced its upcoming third-person shooter Fuse, the community started to ask questions about the future of the Resistance series. Speaking to Games Radar recently, Price confirmed that a fourth game was “seriously considered”, but ambitions to create something different took over:
“One of the aspects of building franchises, and sticking with them for a long time is that even the team can get franchise fatigue. We had been pushing hard with Resistance from the beginning – which was a tough birth – to Resistance 3, which is a game we were all very proud of. With Resistance 3 it felt like we had capped off, or at least closed a major chapter in that franchise. So, a lot of the team was looking forward to doing something different.”
Resistance 3 was released in Q3 of 2011, and despite a few flaws is widely thought of as a varied, thrilling and technically impressive title. If you’ve yet to experience its brilliance, we strongly suggest you do. Immediately. Now.
As for Fuse, you can look forward to playing the final release on May 28th in North America, and May 31st in the UK and Europe. In the meantime, why not check out the demo?

Cool. I’d much rather have yet another generic brown and gray 3rd person shooter with lots of chest high walls instead of WWII with aliens.

In honesty, I’m inclined to agree with you. Though I haven’t yet played Fuse, nothing about the game excites me enough to want to. I would’ve welcomed another Resistance game with open arms, however. R3 was stellar, even if the multiplayer element was a bit sketchy at times.
